Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “önemsiz sindirilebilirler”) tanılamamlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine ilgilanmasıyla oluşan güdük polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino asit kalıntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok adetda polipeptit ast birimi barındırır). Zemin ayırt peptitlerin güdük, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi sırasında her amino asit, vesair amino asite temelli, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle ilgilanır. Polipeptid binasına acımasızlan amino asitlerin her biri binaya peptid ilgilarıyla ilgilanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu sırasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir deniz çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Averaj bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Malum en uzun polipeptit, ortalama 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda bulunan “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine acımasızlan amino asitlere kalıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki kalıntı, bağ yapmamış, azade amino grubu barındırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin vesair ucundaki azade α-karboksil grubu olan kalıntıya C ucu adı verilir.
